Description :
In a context where approximately 90 million Indonesians do not have access to electricity and a significant number of them live outside the economic centers of Java-Bali and tend to be in rural areas, the main objectives of this project were to conduct field surveys and studies for rural electrification investment projects in three separate areas/regions including:
1. South Tapanuli District in North Sumatra,
2. North Sulawesi covering Kabupaten Bolaang Mongondow, and Sangihe,
3. Southern West Java covering Kabupaten Garut and Cianjur.
The field surveys data and studies will be used to develop both the overall framework for rural electrification, and rural electrification investment projects.

In each project area, IED conducted the following interrelated surveys and data processing tasks:
1. Household Survey and Data Processing
2. Community or Village Survey and Data Processing
3. Small Business or Micro Enterprise Survey and Data Processing
In total, 1400 households were interviewed in North Sumatra, 2400 in North Sulawesi and 1400 in West Java.

Description of the Actual Services Provided The specifics activities were as follow:
• Task 1: Definition of sample size and sampling Methods;
• Task 2: Designing, field testing and finalisation of questionnaire ;
• Task 3: Training of field survey staff and questionnaire field testing;
• Task 4 : Creation of the database “Indonesia Data Entry Module (IDEM) in Microsoft ACCESS”;
• Task 5: Data analysis and tabulation of Survey results;
• Task 6: Supervision and quality control;
• Task 7: Secondary data collection;
• Task8 : Final report.

The deliverable Outcome for the project wa as follow:
• Three research study reports covering each project area;
• Questionnaires used in the field and the updated English version of all three questionnaires;
• For each project area, three databases in SPSS format with complete variable name and value labels of all variables:
1. Tabulated results for key variables;
2. Codebook for all three databases
3. Description of sampling procedure and methods.
