Description :
Backed by the European Union and the governments of the Mashreq region, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria, the Euro-Arab Mashreq Gas Market Project (EAMGM, MEDA/2004/016-703) aims at laying the foundations for integrating gas markets in Mashreq region and facilitating links to the EU gas market. Besides the four beneficiary countries, Turkey and Iraq are also participating as observers.
Since February 2006, the project is delivering a Gas Master Plan, a Network Development Survey and Feasibility Studies for key infrastructure projects including the final stages of the Arab Gas Pipeline; recommendations to enhance the legal, regulatory and institutional framework; and a major know-how and technology transfer programme to the gas and energy sectors in the beneficiary countries. The project is being implemented by the Euro-Arab Mashreq Gas Co-operation Centre (EAMGCC), a new organization established in February 2006 with its headquarters in Damascus and liaison offices in Amman, Beirut and Cairo (www.eamgcc.org).
As an important component of the EAMGM project, the Centre has developed a large number of activities related to know how and technology transfer through a number of study tours, workshops and training sessions organized in all countries of the region, with the active participation of EU partners. Within this framework, IED has contributed providing a high calibre expert to deliver a training on planning cycle with emphasis on the natural gas industry.
