| Description : |
Namibia's national electricity company, Nampower, plans to build and operate the Otjikoto Biomass Power Plant (OBPS), a 40 MW power plant that will generate electricity by burning wood chips from the encroaching bush. The objective of the project is to assist NamPower in the preparation of a grant application to the FFEM that would maximize the positive environmental and social impacts of the biomass supply chain and thus ensure the sustainability of the project. During the Due Diligence phase, IED will be required to provide support to AFD on specific and technical points of the project for the instruction of a loan to Nampower for the financing of the production plant. |

| Description of the Actual Services Provided | • Analysis and state of the art of existing documentation and knowledge: mapping and evaluation of the body of data and analysis, consultation of stakeholders, synthesis of the main results and identification of gaps; • Due diligence and value chain analysis to perform an initial diagnosis; • Conception of the logical framework for the intervention of the technical assistance programme to be supported by the FFEM; • Identification and budgeting of activities to be implemented to ensure that social and environmental safeguards are in place to ensure the sustainability of biomass supply; • Evaluation of the costs of the programme of activities; • Drafting of the Project Identification Note for grant application to the FFEM • Support for the submission of a grant application to the NAMA Facility |
