Description :
IED was mandated to carry out a synoptic geospatial analysis of the electrification solutions to lower cost in Congo-Brazzaville.In order to serve as a basis for dialogue between the Congolese Government, the World Bank and other donors with a view to promoting universal access to electricity.

The goal of this synoptic geospatial analysis is:
1 / Modeling different electrification options at lower cost; specifying the distribution terms and appropriate technology choices for network and off-grid solutions;
2 / Identify the sectoral financial needs by analyzing the operating costs and the investments necessary for the profitability of the projects,
3 / Provide a solid strategic basis for deploying network or off-grid connection programs throughout the country, focusing on renewable energy sources.

Description of the Actual Services Provided The methodology applied by IED follows the following steps:
1 / Data collection and preparation of a GIS database;
2 / Definition of criteria, constraints and parameters of the analysis;
3 / Conducting a synoptic analysis of low-cost electrification solutions for the extension of the national grid, isolated networks (mini-grids) and off-grid systems - use of the GEOSIM planning software for this purpose;
4 / Multi-factor sensitivity analysis;
5 / Capacity building of institutions through the definition and facilitation of practical training workshops on the geospatial approach to planning and using the GEOSIM software
