Description :
In 1989, the Cameroon Department of Energy began work on an energy sector master plan covering : conventional power sector, petroleum, energy management, energy efficiency and renewable sources of energy. IED was requested to provide support to the Cameroon team in the latter sector.

Description of the Actual Services Provided In this framework, IED :
* assessed the status of technological solutions already developed in Cameroon during the 80s (photovoltaic, methanisation, biomass utilisation, micro-hydro power, agro industrial waste...),
* evaluated the potential of the energies in different sectors (agro-industry, housing, decentralised electrification...),
* selected some viable short term applications,
* submitted proposals for further development of these solutions,
* analysed the results of an 8 000 household level survey on traditional and modern energy consumption patterns.
Data available at the Cameroon Department of Energy was collected and organised. IED helped design a comprehensive analytical framework.
A seminar was held in Yaounde in 1990 to conclude this work where IED described the prospects of decentralised electrification in Cameroon.
