Description :
In order to define its position with respect to "decentralised rural electrification" in developing countries, the French Electricity Board (EDF) commissioned IED to undertake a focussed analysis of the sector.
   ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Description of the Actual Services Provided IED submitted a report on the main international players concerned with decentralised rural electrification programmes and provided an analysis of mechanisms, means and selection criteria. The main institutions are :
* the Global Environment Facility (GEF)
* the Global Environment French Fund (FFEM)
* the European Development Fund (FED)
The study dealt with the major programmes financed by these institutions : the regional solar power programme in the Sahel countries (FED), the renewable energies programme in India (World Bank and GEF) and the photovoltaic kits programme in Indonesia (World Bank and GEF).
The second part of the study clarified the position of local, national and international Decentralised Rural Electrification (DRE) players. This consolidated document, elucidated the motivations of all these different partners and should permit EDF to target its partners and DRE activities in a better way.
