Description :
The objective is to identify ten or so small hydroelectric power plant sites in French Guiana to supply isolated villages, to analyse the potential of the resource, to study its feasibility and to draw up the corresponding Summary Project Proposals (SPP).
More than 50 sites, ranging from a few kW to a few MW, were first pre-identified on the basis of available cartographic and hydrological data. A selection of about ten sites was then made on the basis of data collected during several field missions.
Description of the Actual Services Provided The main tasks of IED experts were :
* the analysis of current and forecast demand over 15 years based on surveys in the localities concerned.
* the technical study with the following components:
- the study of the natural characteristics of each site,
- assessment of hydroelectric potential,
- definition of amenities,
- selection of electromechanical equipment,
- the indicative route of the MT energy discharge line,
- design of the distribution network,
- definition of operating and maintenance conditions.
* the economic analysis and calculation of profitability ratios.
* The drafting of the Preliminary Draft Summary and the definition of the conditions of implementation and realization.
At the end of the technical study, IED also made recommendations on the setting up and financing of the project by third party investors.
