Description :
With the introduction of new electricity laws in favour of private electricity production the African electricity sector provides new and interesting opportunities for biomass energy. This is particular interesting in the case of Burkina Faso.
The profitability of biomass energy projects is already well recognized, but, because of their usual small size (about 1 MW, 15 million French franc investment) no developer has yet taken advantage of this market opportunity in Africa. IED carried out the identification of a project in Burkina Faso (AMVS) and presented it to several financers (SFI, AFD, UNDP-GEF, FGEF).
The objective of the project is the feasibility study of the AMVS project and to identify two other projects in Burkina Faso.
Description of the Actual Services Provided The feasibility study of the AMVS consisted in :
* The choice of the transformation technical branch,
* The financial analysis; clearly establishing the break-even point of the projects and defined the reselling conditions for the electricity produced.
* The design for the exploitation of the installations : The basis principal is the creation of exploiting company, handing the investment dossier, and gathering project promoters.
* The finance design : if the profitability of the project is sufficient, private funding, like SFI or PROPARCO, or with co-financing from the FGEF or UNDP - GEF, will be observed as a priority.
