Description :
In French Guyana, renewable biomass can partly replace the production of thermal Diesel power station as they recently defined by EDF in the Multiannual Investment Program (BPPI). Guyana energy balance is also conditioned by the hydro power plant in “Petit-Saut” that is managed on an annual basis and submitted to rainfall variations.
The purpose of the study is to examine the costs of investment, maintenance, operation and fuel the diesel plants to assess the acceptable selling prices of eligible renewable energy so that it precedes the diesel generators in the merit order throughout the life of the system.

Description of the Actual Services Provided IED managed the study along four steps:
- Step 1: Data collection on diesel power generation (renewal project of Degrad des Cannes)
- Step 2: Survey of External Data (acceptability of heavy fuel oil, fuel oil price trends, carbon market, the cost of labor)
- Step 3: Forward looking calculations
- Step 4: Specific modeling of the energy mix annual timetable to refine the economic placement of wood energy plants connected to the grid.
This approach has identified the financial conditions to maintain the competitiveness of wood energy plants according to the rate of power growth demand. It also highlighted opportunities to defer the commissioning of one or two diesel units in Degrad of Cannes, the main thermal power plant in Guyana.
