Description :
Within the framework of the Industrial Innovative Development of the Kazakhstan for 2003-2015, the Government has started a new project on diversification of Kazakhstan’s economy through cluster development in non-extracting sectors. Clusters are groups of companies, universities, and other institutions in a particular field, such as car production, food processing, or tourism, located in geographic proximity to each other.
Due to closeness to each other, companies can benefit from economic spillovers that allow them to create higher value for their final customers than would be possible for an isolated company. The role of the government in the cluster development of the economy is to create a favorable business environment.
The purpose of the programme is the identification of 5-7 pilot clusters with goal of creation of industrial basis for competitiveness improvement and economy diversification in addition to getting confirmation about viability of cluster concept in Kazakhstan. Taking into consideration industry participant's interest, similar projects will be developed further in particular industries.
One of the seven pilot clusters is the oil and gas equipment and machinery industry. The specific objective of this project is to support its development in Kazakhstan.
