Description :
Cameroon is a vastly growing economy with rapidly increasing electricity demand, particularly in the industrial sector (crude and refined oil products, natural gas, mining etc). The utility is currently grappling with a power deficit, and energy efficiency measures are becoming critical for meeting Cameroon’s electricity demand in short to medium term.
Responsible for supervising the prices and costs for electricity supply, ARSEL wants to encourage the use of existing energy efficiency potential and the corresponding cost savings in electricity supply.
In this context ARSEL wants to draw up a National Energy Efficiency Action Plan, based primarily on an in-depth study of demand-related energy efficiency potential, measures and incentives (end use).
The action plan includes: energy efficiency recommendations, targets and measures and a plan for their implementation. In order to develop an energy efficiency strategy, the study focuses on four main issues:
(i) reducing electricity bills in public buildings,
(ii) improving energy efficiency in the industrial (manufacturing) and service sectors,
(iii) raising awareness of the opportunities for households to save electricity, and
(iv) Adjusting the institutional and regulatory framework to the current situation in the energy sector.
The approach to reach the objectives and produce the required documents is based on a very proactive engagement of the national stakeholders in order to ensure ownership of the study contents, the mobilization of appropriate resources in order to carry on implementation for a national team.
