Description :
The objective of this small initial assignment is to initiate the development of a working programme between the region Rhone-Alpes and Karnataka state on the transport and sustainable development sector. The content of the programme was developed in close collaboration with an Indian delegation of four transport and sustainable development experts who were invited by the Region Rhone Alpes to attend the CODATU conference held between the 5th and 7th July 2006. Their attendance represented a unique opportunity to meet with relevant stakeholders in the Rhone-Alpes Region and thus allowed to develop a concrete first working programme which details main themes of interest.

This initiative stems from a declaration of intent for cooperation which was signed between the Region and Karnataka State in 2003, followed by the invitation of three Indian delegates to a workshop organized by IED titled “Transport for sustainable development : urban planning and development projects in France, India and Morocco” which was held in the Rhone-Alpes Regional Council in Lyon between the 24-25 March 2005. This was then followed by an official visit by the President of the Region Rhone-Alpes wherein one of he’s main principle objectives was to develop an economic, scientific, academic and tourism cooperation with the State of Karnataka.
