ECOWAS Regional Access Project

The ECOWAS Regional Electricity Access Program has the potential to finance the reinforcement and extension of the distribution network across eleven countries in West Africa, this component of the project focuses on The Gambia, Guinea Bissau and Mali. The project aims at connecting 300,000 household within 100km of the substation currently ongoing under the OMVG regional interconnection project (2 substations in The Gambia and 4 substations in Guinea-Bissau, 1 in Senegal to connect Guinea Bissau) and the OMVS regional interconnector project (4 substations in Mali)

IED was contracted by the World Bank to perform a geospatial electrification plan in order to prepare a preliminary design and cost estimate of the LV and MV networks required to connect households located in the perimeter of the above mentioned 10 substations.

The study was done following two main axes for each of the three countries: densification in already electrified cities and villages and grid extension. IED used its in-house software GEOSIM to perform this analysis. GEOSIM provided the load forecast, the optimization of villages to be connected by grid extension, least cost optimization of the MV feeder path, and the economic analysis of extending the grid.

ESSOR Programme

ESSOR is an ambitious program of hybrid solar mini-grid projects targeting areas of at least 100 000 inhabitants in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The overall program supported by the UK Department for International Development (DFID), aims to roll out up to 30 projects through a tendering process to the private sector. A first batch of 3 sites has been selected and IED is providing its technical assistance throughout the pilot phase for the concessions to be tendered.

The main tasks undertaken during the first phase of the assignment can be summarized as follow:

- Identification of potential locations to build the solar power plants

- Demand assessment, analysis and forecast across the concession period

- Technical assistance regarding minigrids prefeasibility, including the scoping of the distribution system (mapping, length, Low voltage lines/ medium voltage lines) and the identification of the main technical issues, environmental constrains and impacts

IED will go on by providing its assistance in developing the technical assumptions to be used in each project financial model, developing the standard concession agreement (covering both generation and distribution), and drafting of the technical requirements for the tender process.

Solar Plan in Burkina Faso

IED participates in the implementation of the Burkina Faso Solar Plan

In Burkina, IED is supporting SONABEL for the development and integration of large scale photovoltaic production on the national grid. In particular, IED carries out feasibility studies leading to the selection of EPC companies for the realization of:
- A photovoltaic power plant of about 40 MWp near Ouagadougou
- A 90 kV high-voltage line to connect this plant to the transmission grid
- Several regional photovoltaic plants connected to the grid

- A multi-MW pilot storage system to facilitate the integration of a significant share of photovoltaic production on the national grid.
This work is financed by the French Development Agency, AFD.

Inauguration of our biomass gasification plant in Cambodia

cambodgeOn 11th April 2018, the IED group inaugurated a 1MW biomass gasification plant in the province of Sra Emm in Cambodia in the presence of the Ministry of Energy represented by his Excellency Mr. Tun Lean, Minister, Regulator and Authorities Advisor, the Development French Agency and the EEP-Mekong program.

IED Invest is an investor and oprocess with closed-loop water use and ash recovery and employs around thirty people locally.

More than 1.5 GWh of energy has already been produced by the plant to date.

Green Mini Grids Kenya

Supported by the United Kingdom and the European Union, Kenya's "mini green network" project, managed by the French Development Agency (AFD), supports the private development of renewable energy mini-grids through state-of-the-art subsidies. investment and technical assistance to both the beneficiaries and the mini-grid sector. The French Development Agency (AFD) has selected Innovation Energie Développement (IED) in association with Practical Action Consulting and I-DEV, to act as a management entity for the operations of the program. After a call for projects launched in May 2017, in the first quarter of 2018, IED signed 3 grant agreements with private operators POWERHIVE, POWERGEN and REV.SOL. These first three agreements aim to connect 12990 connections (households, productive and social uses). For more information on the project, click here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fVv7bLEf_w)
