As part of the project of Upgrading and Development of the Electricity Transmission Network and Reform of the Sector for SONATREL-Cameroun (National Electricity Transmission Company), IED carried out a major training program for the executives of this company.  Two two-weeks training sessions were held in Ebolowa and Mbankomo in September and October 2022.

Session 1: PowerFactory – digsilent training with the goal of mastering this reference software in electricity transmission network studies: network modeling, power flow, contingency analysis, stability studies.

Session 2: Training in demand forecasting and production planning using DAP and GAP software. The LV, MV and HV segments were covered for demand forecasting, the session ended with a partial modelling of Cameroon's demand by 2035. For production planning, the Northern Interconnected Network of Cameroon by 2035 served as a basis for the exercises.  The trainees were able to model thermal, solar, hydroelectric, battery storage and interconnections to examine the supply reliability of and the generating electricity cost.

This training cycle will allow SONATREL to strengthen its coverage of the fundamental aspects of electricity sector planning: demand, production, transport.

Deeply attached to the cause of human values and their respect, IED accompanies and supports the projects carried out by its employees, projects in which they are personally involved, whether at the headquarters in France or abroad.

Each year, several actions are supported and encouraged by IED.

In 2022, among the various actions carried out by its collaborators, IED supported the Lions Club Cotonou Bel'Harmonie of which Marcel DOSSOU KOHI, IED collaborator in Benin, became the president in june 2022.

Supported by its volunteer members and contributions in the form of donations, the Lions Club Bel'Harmonie of Cotonou has been acting for a decade in Benin to provide assistance to disadvantaged populations and in particular in :

• the fight against malaria,
• the preservation of sight including screening for eye diseases, free medical treatment and donations of optical glasses,
• the fight against childhood cancer and against diabetes and hunger,

Without forgetting attaching respect and preservation of the environment cause.

The Cotonou Lions Club team met in October as IED President was present in Cotonou, to express its thanks to IED’s support. As stated in the  speech of  Mr. Marcel DOSSOU KOHI, President of the Lions Club Bel'Harmonie, when he took office on June 31, 2022: "great things can be accomplished through strong team spirit and benevolent communication".

As part of its activities and expertise, IED has been sought by:

• SONELEC (National Electricity Company of the Comoros)
• EDG (Electricity of Guinea)
• CI Énergies (Côte d'Ivoire Énergies)
• IRAF (Engineering and Achievements AFricaines) Guinea

In order to train their staff to electrical and mechanical dimensioning of the HV and LV networks.

A three weeks training session running from September 14 to October 4, 2022 was provided by IED at the company's headquarters in Francheville in the Lyon region.

This training was structured according to the 3 following themes :

• 1st Week : Village mapping from a Geographic Information System (MANIFOLD) and demand forecasting model
• 2nd week: Electrical dimensioning of HV and LV networks
• 3rd week: Mechanical dimensioning of HV and LV networks

The different themes were addressed through theoretical presentations and practical manual exercises. Subsequently, the trainees were able to apply the elements and engage in theoretical exercises on the MV/LV GISELEC network sizing software, developed and marketed by IED.

Commissionned by the World Bank, IED maps ECOWAS electricity systems in 2022 within GIS web application.

In total, it is more than 200 installed power plants representing nearly 27 GW, 580 source stations and 1000 stransmission lines which have been georeferenced. A part of the MV distribution networks has also been integrated into the platform.

This dynamic online tool aims to facilitate access to information from the World Bank in order to establish regional investment programs in production and transport infrastructure.

National indicators also make it possible to monitor the evolution of renewable energies in the regional mix and thus, the energy transition by country.
