Drinking water supply

IED is widely involved in the development of drinking water infrastructure in rural, semi urban and periurban areas.

The approach of IED rests upon an innovative institutional approach associating public and private actors in very different forms : concessions, public service delegation to private or local organisations, in the perspective of defining and adopting a replicable approach.

Organisational and institutional studies
Interactive consultations with beneficiaries and all actors involved to develop institutional
and organisational approaches adapted to local contexts ;
Development of administrative and legal documentation ;
Formulation of sustainable financial mechanisms.

Technical, economic and financial feasibility studies
Study of the drinking water services market, sociological analysis ;
Optimisation (technical and economic) of the various supply configurations
which can be envisaged ;
Analysis of financial viability considering willingness and capability to pay
of beneficiaries and tariff structure.

Technical assistance and supervison of works
Supervision of works, engineering studies.

Technical assistance to a 626 solar PV drinking water pumping
and community systems project installed in 9 Sahelian countries ;
evaluation of organisational, technical and financial aspects, negotiation
of maintenance and total service guarantee contracts (5 to 10 years) ;
Definition and implementation of an organisational scheme for sustainable
drinking water supply of 50 secondary towns in Niger ;
Technical and organisational definition of solar PV pumping project in India,
substituting diesel and handpumps.
